By the end of 2012, I successfully completed my Master’s degree in Historical Anthropology and Southeast Asian Studies at the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main. In addition to various side jobs and internships during my studies, I also spent a semester abroad in the Netherlands.
After my studies I was able to collect first professional experience as a check-in agent at the Frankfurt Airport for the Singapore Airlines. Afterwards I worked in the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Frankfurt am Main as a desk officer for the Press, Social and Culture Department. Here I was able to apply my language skills, but it didn’t fulfill me from a professional point of view. Then I worked as an assistant for trade fairs and websites at the VDMA (Association of German Mechanical Engineering) Power Systems, where I was able to expand my organizational skills. In addition, I was able to gain first experiences in web design, also a very interesting area, which I was allowed to dabble in.
Soon though, I realized that the language and cultural aspects in my professional life were missing. Since 2013 I have been giving private Indonesian-tutoring and I had noticed repeatedly that this "job" makes me much happier and gives my life a lot more significance. Helping others to develop their language skills and watching them improve is priceless to me. Therefore, I have been working as an online language teacher since 2018 and have found my path that I want to keep following. To provide the best possible lesson, I did some further studying and made my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certificate. The further training for the DaF/DaZ (German as a foreign/second language) Certificate will follow soon.
My interest in other cultures and languages developed when I moved with my parents from Germany to Indonesia in 1995. There, I also went to local schools and therefore had to learn Indonesian quickly. I’ve maintained the interest in other languages to this day (I am currently learning Spanish and Turkish).
The experience of having lived in two countries had not only influenced my choice of study, but also awakened a great interest to see more of the world. This led to the fact that my husband and I left Germany in mid-2018 and emigrated.
